SBN Reacts: Fans don’t want a shortened MLB season

Spring training is set to begin this week, although there are still health concerns due to the pandemic. The MLBPA rejected a proposal to push back the start of the season and play a 154-game schedule, so for now, the sport is planning a full schedule.

We asked fans whether they thought the season should be shortened to buy some time to allow coronavirus cases to fall. Only 38 percent of fans we polled think this season should be shortened.

When we asked fans what the optimal number of games should be, the overwhelming majority wanted at least 140 games.

Even before the pandemic, some have called for the MLB season to be shortened, arguing it is too long. A shorter season would also allow for more teams to make the playoffs without pushing the World Series deep into November. But the fans we polled were overwhelmingly against shortening the season.
