You might think Commissioner Rob Manfred would be talking more about expansion. After all, he has considered just about every other idea under the sun. Owners sure could use those lucrative expansion fees after the financial losses they endured last year.

It has also been a long time since baseball last expanded. The 23 years since the Rays and Diamondbacks joined the league is the longest period without adding teams since baseball began expanding back in 1960. This has been despite the player pool expanding to new countries in Asia and Latin America, although African-American participation in baseball is less than half of what it was 50 years ago.

Despite this, baseball isn’t making expansion much of a priority right now, to the point where Dave Dombrowski abandoned an effort to bring baseball to Nashville after he was told expansion won’t be considered for another year.

As for what fans think, they are pretty split on whether baseball should expand, with only 47 percent in favor of expansion.

If there is expansion, fans overwhelmingly want two teams added.

If baseball does expand, fans want to have some hot chicken and country music in the league, with Nashville the top choice as an expansion city.

No love for Topeka, huh?
