Song of the Day

“Circles” by Post Malone

Vahe Gregorian with The KC Star interviewed the trainer of Patrick Mahomes and Bobby Witt Jr. to get his thoughts on the similarities between the two.

The ties that bind them are both tangible and intangible, reflecting both rare innate talent, similar mindsets and auras. Pour that together and you get an “it” factor that, for instance, is part of why Stroupe reckons it would be no burden on Witt to discuss shared qualities in their makeup.

Matt Lyons with Let’s Go Tribe (Our Indians counterpart) previewed the Royals.

Earlier in the offseason, the Royals’ enigmatic general manager Dayton Moore signed old friend Carlos Santana to a two-year, $17.5 million deal. Two months later, he traded for Red Sox outfielder Andrew Benintendi, bringing in a 26-year-old with two years of control who may be looking for a change of scenery. And finally, just last week, the Royals signed 30-year-old Salvador Perez to a four-year, $82 million extension as he came off his best offensive season ever. A reward for previously taking a team-friendly deal to stay in Kansas City? Maybe a bet that they won’t find a better catcher for that price, even as he ages into his 30’s?

Either way, none of these things make sense to a team trying to min-maxing their budget in a down year — and I love them for it.

If you’re interested in the construction of the new Crown Vision, this write up is for you.

Kevin O’Brien at Royals Reporter broke down Ervin Santana and Jake Brentz’s Spring Training performances and how they might fit in the 2021 bullpen.

Mike Gillespie at KoK wrote about the 2021 game conduct rules.

Staying with KoK, David Scharff reviewed Josh Staumont’s 2020 season, as well as, projecting what his 2021 season might look like.

Leigh Oleszczak at KC Kingdom wrote about hope residing in the impending pitching prospect wave.

Mike Bell, Twins bench coach and son of former Royals skipper, Buddy Bell, passed away due to cancer at 46 years old.

The Miami Dolphins went on a Madden-like trade spree yesterday. They traded the 3rd overall pick in 2021 for the 12th overall pick in 2021 and future 1sts, then turned around and moved back up into the 6th overall spot, trading with the Eagles. Ultimately, the math ended up like this:

I’m not a big DC Universe guy (Marvel 4lyf!!) but the preview for the new Justice League movie has me intrigued.

One of my favorite comedians/writers/directors, Bo Burnham was cast as Larry Bird in a new HBO series about the 1980s Lakers. MAD LIB RUMBLINGS ALERT!

Adrenaline Rush of the Week

Snorting Fun Dip

I grew up in a small rural town in Missouri. It had about 1600 people in it. I had no idea was cocaine was beyond it being a drug (shoutout DARE).

This last week I was reminded of a time in this small town of a time where my friends and I had secured Fun Dip from our local gas station and proceeded to snort it.

If you’re not familiar with Fun Dip, it’s basically flavored sugar that you lick off a provided stick (made of chalk or similarly flavored hardened substance).

So there we were, Fun Dip cut up into lines on a desk in our home room where our closest adult supervision was likely checking MO Sports message boards and not making sure their students were fast tracking their future diabetes.

What’s a dumb pre-teen Josh supposed to do? NOT take a picture of the event taking place in order to capture stupidity before camera phones? Sure I took a picture of it in order to maintain the pure naivety of the setting forever.

And that’s exactly what happened...until the superintendent gained possession of said picture and wondered how Pablo Escobar had infiltrated her small town public school. We were all quickly detained and questioned by her and the local police officer in order to confirm that it was indeed a rocket-ship to insulin shots and not “booger sugar” (OK maybe it could still be called booger sugar but you get where I’m going here).

All in all, the actual sniffing of it could not compare to the thought of going to jail over it.

Have a Saturday ya’ll!
