Danny Duffy takes the mound as the Royals try to clinch the series victory. Over three starts this year, Duffy has impressed going six innings each outing while only allowing one earned run over those 18 innings. The veteran lefty was the victim of his defense’s struggles against the Rays Monday night, which allowed two unearned runs leading to his first loss of the season.
The Tigers offense has continued their early-season struggles in the first two games of the series scoring a total of three runs; all via the long ball. Their offense is last in the MLB in OPS and AVG against lefties which bodes well for the Royals on Sunday.
The Tigers will be getting back future Hall of Famer Miguel Cabrera. The first basemen found himself on the IL with a left bicep strain.
Offensively, the Royals will face Michael Fulmer who is coming off of just three days of rest. The right-hander made his second start of the season Wednesday, giving up three runs over four innings against the Pirates. Fulmer is no stranger to the Royals lineup, especially Whit Merrifield and Salvador Perez who combined have five home runs (Merrifield 2, Perez 3) off the 2016 AL Rookie of the Year.
First pitch at Comerica Park is at 12:10 CDT. This is game three of the four-game set that will conclude Monday afternoon.
