Brad Keller toes the slab in the rubber match against the division rival Twins to conclude the nine-game road trip. A disappointing start to the season for the Royals’ opening day starter, who is entering Sunday 2-2 with a 9.00 ERA through his first five starts. In his last start, Keller went a season long 6 innings allowing two runs in the win against the Tigers.
The Royals offense will face José Berríos who is off to a good start to the 2021 season. Also 2-2, but unlike Keller, Berríos has been able to prevent the big run totals leading to a 3.04 ERA through five starts. Opposing hitter are just hitting .196 off of the right-hander this season.
The Royals offense looks to carry the momentum from Saturday after exploding for 11 runs thanks to four home runs (Perez, O’Hearn and 2 from Benintendi). 8 of the 12 Royals batters have double digit at bats against Berríos including Whit Merrifield who is hitting .359 in 39 ABs.
This is the final game of the nine-game road trip where the Royals are 6-2. Going into Sunday, the Royals lead the MLB in winning percentage and the last team left with single digit losses.
