KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The Kansas City Royals are joining Major League Baseball’s “Vaccinate at the Plate” initiative, hoping to convince fans to get a COVID-19 shot.
Anyone who gets a COVID-19 vaccination at a Price Chopper Pharmacy location on June 30 will receive two vouchers for future Royals games. There will also be a chance to buy up to eight additional tickets at 50% off.
Fans can also attend a vaccination clinic at the Blue KC Gate at Kauffman Stadium on June 30, 2021, from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Prior to Emmanuel Rivera being removed from last night’s game with a wrist injury, David Lesky had ended his daily newsletter with this:
What the Royals need is a success story. I don’t think Rivera has to be the third baseman of the future for this team, but I do think it would be very nice if he could find his way to being a solid player. As Clint Scoles mentioned, if he can do what Maikel Franco did in 2020, the Royals would absolutely love that. They need someone to step up and be a success story if they want a shot to compete sometime soon. Heck, even if he could do what O’Hearn did in 2018 when he came up later in the year, that would be huge. They just need a win, even if it’s not on the field.
Hector Santiago did indeed get suspended for alleged use of foreign substance. He only used rosin, which is legal, but he evidently used it on his glove side, which is not.
Trevor Bauer is reportedly under investigation for sexual assault, and has denied it.
Here is a palate cleanser from that:

If you don’t love Shohei Ohtani, I don’t think we can be friends, or even acquaintances.
Hate to see the great Serena Williams felled by slick grass.
We're heartbroken for you, Serena.
