After a disappointing last two games for the Royals falling to the Minnesota Twins, Kansas City faces the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim starting an AL West road trip.
The big news going into today’s match up is the beginning of prospect Jackson Kowar’s MLB career making his long awaited MLB debut. Kowar has been fantastic so far this year in AAA post a 5-0 record with a 0.85 ERA in 6 starts. Only given up 3 earned runs with 41 strikeouts.
You don’t need to know a lot about baseball to know that those statistics are insane.
Kowar is a part of the now historic 2018 Royals draft becoming the fourth member (Singer, Bubic, and Lynch) of that class to make a start in one season. This is the first time in MLB history that this has happened.
Pitching for the Angels is Dylan Bundy who is off to a rocky beginning to the 2021 season posting a 0-6 record with a 6.49 ERA. And in his last four starts he has an ERA of 12.33.
Hopefully the Royals bats can get back on track against the struggling right-hander who many Royals have a history with. Specifically Andrew Benintendi who has faced Bundy 32 times because of both players being members of the AL East (Benintendi with Boston, Bundy in Baltimore). The left-fielder is hitting .344 off of Bundy including one home run.
