Today is the Fourth of July, Independence Day, America’s Birthday. On this day, the Kansas City Royals will host the Minnesota Twins in the classic American game, baseball. And today, the Royals seek to accomplish the most American of things: utterly destroying one’s opponents in the name of victory and country.

The Royals have not swept an opponent in a three- or four-game series since late April, when the Royals swept the Detroit Tigers in four games. In fact, the Royals have exactly zero three-game sweeps of any opponent this year. That seems surprising, but considering the Royals played at a 109-loss pace in the months of May and June, it sort of makes sense.

If you missed the earlier news, the Royals shipped Edward Olivares back to Omaha again. However, Andrew Benintendi has been activated from the IL and is back, so. Mixed news. Anyway, here are the lineups.

May the Royals win every game in the rest of the year for America.
