Monday Night Game Thread: Reds at Royals

Royals need Minor to be Major

MLB: Minnesota Twins at Kansas City Royals Gary Rohman-USA TODAY Sports

To start the last week before the All-Star break, the Cincinnati Reds visit the K for a three game series starting tonight. The Reds are currently three games over .500 and in second place of the NL Central.

Though he is on the IL, it is good to see this old friend back in Kansas City.

Mike Minor will toe the slab for the Royals coming off their first series win in two weeks against the Twins. Minor is aiming to get back on track after back-to-back losses against the Red Sox and Rangers where both outings he just went 5 innings. June was not kind to Minor, having a 6.44 ERA in 6 starts.

For the Reds, Vladimir Gutierrez is also coming off of back-to-back losses including his last outing where he did not make it out of the 5th inning against the Padres. The 25 year-old rookie has a 4.93 ERA through 7 starts this season.

The Royals offense looks to get back on track after yesterday’s far from threatening display at the plate.

This first half of a season has been quite the rollercoaster, but they can gain some momentum this week going into the All-Star break.
