Royals vs. Yankees Tuesday game thread

Can the Yankees blow more saves tonight?

The Royals and Yankees played a wild one last night with New York becoming the firs team to win after blowing four saves. Maybe they have a few more blown saves in them tonight?

Journeyman left-hander Nestor Cortes, Jr. goes for the Yanks, and he has been surprisingly effective this year with a 2.15 ERA and 41 strikeouts in 37 23 innings despite a fastball that barely breaks 90 mph. The 26-year old Cuban will be making his fifth start and has yet to go more than five innings, so the Yankees may have to go early to that bullpen that blew four saves last night.

Rookie lefty Daniel Lynch goes for the Royals, and he has looked like a different pitcher since being brought back to the Majors in July. In his last three starts he has given up just four runs and four walks in 19 innings with a nasty slider. The Bronx Bombers have been much better against left-handed pitchers, so this will be a good test for Lynch.

Whit Merrifield gets the start at DH, so this will give him a day off from defense and hopefully recharge his batteries after a long slump. Nicky Lopez is back in the lineup despite being hit in the face on a hot shot late in Monday’s game.

Game time is 7:10 on Bally Sports Kansas City.
