Royals Rumblings - News for August 12, 2021
Lynn Worthy has Brady Singer evaluate his first start back from the Injured List.
“Definitely, command was off on the fastball,” Singer said. “The slider didn’t feel real sharp either. I threw some good ones at times when I needed to. The changeup, I threw it but I didn’t have much command of it either. So an all around struggle with command.”
Anne Rogers has more.
Singer used his rehab assignment to incorporate his changeup more. He threw 10 changeups in his final rehab start in Triple-A Omaha before rejoining the team — and he was hoping to throw it more Wednesday.
“When you don’t have the other two pitches going, it’s hard to go to your third pitch,” Singer said. “I came out there, I wanted to throw it a lot, I feel really comfortable with it. It’s something I’ve worked on over the past few weeks. It’s something I feel comfortable with and I feel like I can throw it in any count. But when the other two pitches aren’t working as well, it’s tough to do.”
Craig Brown at Into the Fountains writes about Daniel Lynch’s start on Tuesday.
So while the line score of 4.2 innings with four hits and four walks along with three runs allowed isn’t an impressive one by any means, there was still plenty to like from Lynch on Tuesday. He got six whiffs on 12 swings against his slider. And six whiffs on 21 swings off the four-seamer. Overall, Lynch finished with a 40 percent whiff rate and a 33 percent CSW% (called strikes plus whiffs), both extremely solid rates. Hell, the whiff rate is exceptional. And holds plenty of promise for better starts ahead.
David Lesky at Inside the Crown comments on another Edward Olivares demotion.
I honestly don’t have much to say about it other than the fact that I just can’t believe this keeps happening. For a long time, it made some sense because he was one of the few with options who could keep going up and down. But it makes a lot less sense now. I don’t have a huge problem with a lineup like last night’s not including Olivares (if he were on the team, of course), though it makes the inclusion of Michael A. Taylor on the roster continue to be confusing. But when they play Ryan O’Hearn and sit Olivares, it just baffles me.
MJ Melendez does it again.
I mean, not that anyone is surprised, but MJ Melendez homered in his AAA debut. #29 on the season. pic.twitter.com/lqh2ANxo3h
