The 2023 World Series is almost set. By the end of the evening, we’ll know for sure who will be the American League representative. We might also know the National League representative, too, if the Philadelphia Phillies win.
We’ve got two games on today’s card. First, the Arizona Diamondbacks will play the aforementioned Phillies. The Phillies lead 3-2 and are looking for the Kansas City Royals special: back-to-back World Series appearances, with the second being a victory. Philly last won the World Series in 2008, and it would be their fourth World Series appearance in the last 16 years. Meanwhile, the Diamondbacks famously won the 2001 World Series after 9/11 but have yet to get back.
Then, the Houston Astros—who defeated the Phillies last year—will face off against the Texas Rangers in what will be an exciting Game Seven. The Astros have been to the World Series four times in the last seven years, and they are one win away from increasing that number to five. The Rangers haven’t won a pennant since 2011, and they haven’t been to the postseason since 2016.
Personally, I’m rooting for the Diamondbacks and the Rangers, although I begrudgingly admit an Astros/Phillies rematch would be something to behold.
