The only way to get this team competitive is to open up the pocketbooks and sign a true ace starter. You simply can't win in modern baseball without one. The benefits are that you have a guy going to the mount every 5th game that you expect to win and that has the effect of moving the rest of your starters down a notch. Your previous #1 now gets to face #2 pitchers and so on down the line. This allows your entire rotation to have better chances of winning their matchups. Not to mention the guidance and example a star pitcher brings to the staff.

So ownership either needs to trade for an ace or sign one from the free agent market. If we do this, we can start competing again.
